In this first article we will find out what is blogging and we will tell a little history.

Given the current boom in this online publication format let’s talk a little about blogs. The aim of this article is to give a brief introduction to the concept of blog, then move along this manual to offer different ways to create a blog and customize it.

To begin we will give a definition of what a blog is through an example. For this I want you to think of the logbooks of the ships, they write every day what’s happening aboard the ship. Well a blog is similar, and born with the idea of writing a diary online. This journal is usually personal, although there are blogs that involve several people or an entire community.

So, what is blogging?

Blogs are one way of publication of Web 2.0, in this case an evolution of what were once personal pages. Over time, its application and definition has grown into other fields such as news, views, etc..

A blog is defined as a web site that is updated on a regular basis, which will appear chronologically articles of various types, from reviews to news, tips, recipes and general all kinds of topics. Another feature of the blog is that published papers, which are often called “Post” (the plural would be posts), on page newest first. That is, as published something appears on the cover in the first place and as new articles are published, placed the first displacing the oldest down.

Typically, each blog is dedicated to a particular subject but there may be some mixed several tracks (if the personal blog).

History of blogging

The blog, as can be read on Wikipedia, is first seen in 1994, when majority of the countries still many didn’t know what the Internet was. In reality what they said that was one of the first blog, was not only personal pages, which have nothing to do with the current blog.

Anyway, the term Weblog was first seen in December 1997, coined by Jorn Barger. After this he coined the term blog (which comes from the abbreviation for Weblog), both as noun and verb: blogging (or edit a blog post, send a post to a blog). Also soon began to use the word blogger, as the person who publishes a blog, which in Spanish would translate it as blogger. Do you understand now what is blogging?

The popularity of the blog came about in 1999 when several websites began offering English and hosting services for blogs, so that Internet users wishing to become bloggers, did not have to deal with the technical complications of creating their own infrastructure for editing posts.

But until 2002 the term was no more than something specific to the Internet medium to enter society and even be investigated and social phenomenon.

After a short specification of what is blogging, we turn to how we can create one, but this was already discussed in the next article in this site.
